S-Magic(Hitachi) - Patented Hitachi cold work die steel. Composition information was found on a dealer site and matches closely Hitachi description, which is still not published. Working hardness is 60-62HRC as per Hitachi brochure. Although, in the same brochure JIS SKD-11 steel is said to be 58-60HRC. May be the numbers are for dies and other tools, but in knives SKD11 can be found hardened up to 64HRC. I don't think SLD8 will have problems at 64HRC either. As per Hitachi SLD8 has increased wear resistance, due to better hardness, and overall better resistance to deformation.

Manufacturing Technology - Ingot

Country - Japan(JP)

Known Aliases:
Hitachi - SLD8, Hitachi - SLD Magic
