Accidentally dug up yet another pdf listing Bohler-Uddeholm steel name conversions into other standards including DIN, W-Nr and AISI. Congratz to me :) After sifting though few megs of that document I found about a dozen names that were not in the steel chart already. Still, O2, O1, and few other stainles ones, plus few more tool steel names from Bohler-Uddeholm. All from the file not accessible from the website normal navigation. I guess someone forgot it there...

That steel has been out since 2007, at least I found references to it dating back to 2007. Nitride steel, I am guessing an evolution of the Vanax 35 nitrogen steel. Kershaw already has a prototype or almost production ready knife made out of it, and few custom knifemakers are testing it as well. Still, Bohler-Uddeholm keeps its composition a secret. I am sure, no competitor of theirs had a lad to test the composition, really ;) Anyhow, if you happen to have a composition and are not bound by some NDA, let me know.

As promised, first results of the dishwasher vs. stainless steel knife are published. Keep in mind, the test is still going on, so there is no conclusions section yet, and in general the article is not finished. I'll update it with test results and photos of course as things develop. Although, as it is already, judging by the rusty spot on the blade, see on the photo, if I were you I'd be extra careful about sticking my favorite knife in the dishwasher ;)

Over half a dozen new names for Bohler-Uddeholm Microclean steels. Mainly their official conversions or equivalents for Vanadis steels with Snnn microclean series. Obviously, even in their charts there's certain unclear equivalences, missing compositions and all the usual goodies.

Blah, both phones sold out in the area

Droid incredible and Evo are sold out in my area. What's up with that? And I still can't decide which one. Evo is noticeably larger, which is a plus, for keyboard and all that, but sitting in my pocket with a knife or two...

HTC Evo or Droid Incredible, that is the question today

I have to decide today... Both look very appealing to me, main criteria being Android OS, so I'm not tied up with Apple policies when developing software. So, which one... Sprint has crappier coverage in bay area, but EVO has better specs, on the other hand Droid incredible is smaller, which is a plus. Then again, when carrying a phone of that size, is 0.5" that important? Either way, I need android phone, since I'am already developing for Android. All goes well, we will have knife apps on Android ;)

Three weeks ago, I've started my secret experiment mentioned in the article Super Hard vs. Soft Edges. Basically, I've decided to test average stainless steel knife, to be exact X50CrMoV15 steel, in continuous dishawsher cycle, if or how many cycles after it would show signs of corrosion. Frankly, I am surprised, it took only 6 cycles for the first rust spot to show up. Too late now, and I am too tired. Pre test photos, dedicated article, at least start of it and rust spot photos tomorrow. I will continue the experiment for few more weeks. Details will be in the new alricle, which will also serve as a log of the experiment.

If all goes as planned, I should receive the new 600d, 270mm gyuto for testing and evaluation within a week or two. After testing, I and Henckels agreed to use the knife for passaround, since I don't want to keep free knives. Passaround will commence on knifeforums.

One more old review, that needed some overhaul. Updated links in there, expanded commentary, well actually revised that part considerably, I am referring to the use and usability of the single grind, or chisel edges. Main problem for me is still the same, grind on the wrong side to be useful for utility uses. Other than that, not too many changes.

Just bought it on ebay. Brand new of course. For a ceramic knives and for any knife maker for that matter Yoshi blades sure makes very bold claims, but I don't want to speculate empty handed, and 25$ for that stuff isn't much. Although, some of the claims they make do not require purchasing their knife at all. Obviously, one 5" knife will not replace drawer full of knives.
