Revised the review again. Updated sharpening methods section, and other details. Added specifications. Few weeks ago I have dug up the knife from my knife closet again, played with it for a while, nice toy, but alas, as a user knife, it isn't the one. Sad, Boker made another ceramic knife, I really like how it looks, but it comes with ceramic blades only, no dice.

After 3 serious use sessions, I've decided to publish the initial review. I didn't put the usage and conclusions section in it yet. I've decided to resharpen the edge fully and conduct one or two testes again and then finish the review.

It's not very public news yet, but June is tomorrow. Miyabi Fusion 600D, Morimoto edition. Anyway, the knives are made out of Takefu VG-10 steel, although Henckel is using their alias CMV-60. Blades are clad in 65 layers of stainless steel, if I got the initial info right. I'll post the update later, when I get confirmation. The line includes several small knives, 7in santoku, several chef's knives from 4in to 10in, a slicer anda bread knife. Details later.

Henckels Japan rep. Michael confirmed that CMV-60 steel is Henckels designation of the good old Takefu VG-10 steel.

So far, I'm not happy with this knife at all. The fact that I had to sharpen it after very first use, which was my standard test case, 1.5 hour long veggie cutting session on an end grain cutting board is quite rather disappointing. If it was a western knife, I'd give it 10 on the scale from 1 to 5, but I have totally different expectations from Nenox, especially from the knife they call Honyaki(!) I shouldn've needed sharpening! Also, the initial edge, sheesh :( The final grit on it was less that 3000 grit, judging by its appearance and how long it too to polish it using 5000 grit Naniwa chosera japanese waterstone. 500$ knife with that edge out of the box? Messermeister meridian elite paring knfie had a better, more polished edge. Another session will be today and tomorrow, I don't want to jump into conclusions yet.

My first Vanadis 4E steel knife, 66HRC at that. Should make an excellent light use knife. We'll see how it will hold up when it gets here. Hopefully soon enough.

The report is online. Came out pretty big though. I wasn't really planning on the article of that size but full description of five individual tests, and then discussing various aspects of hardness, and other hypothesis proofs or otherwise took quite a bit of space. I wanted to cover few subjects, since I felt they are all related and the tests were illustrating that and why super generic statements like hard edges are brittle or soft edges are very easy to restore can be very wrong so many times.

My ps3 went kaput

Sucks big time. My gen I, 60GB ps3 kicked the bucket this weekend. Coincidentally, I was rewatching n-th time Lost on blu-ray, S3 to be exact. At some poitn the screen went black and never came back. It still works as a media center, but no blu-rays or even dvds. Considering that blu-rays are my main watchable material, I'm really bummed. Sony offered to trade that broken thing in for a newer PS3, slim, etc, but with no PS2 hardware emulator, no memory cards, and only 2 USB ports, although I don't really care about any of that. Funny, my get I xbox 360 did last twice as long as that PS3, although in the end it did go belly up too, dvd drive died on that one as well.
