SB Wear(Carpenter) - Air hardening tool steel, with good wear resistance and toughness characteristics. Working hardness not listed, but chart shows that at 62HRC it has better toughness and wear resistance than D2 at 60 HRC, where toughness is comparable with A2 at 60HRC. Not so sure what happens with D2 at 62HRC comparison. D2 and its Japanese counterpart SKD11 are used in kitchen knives at 64HRC. Not sure if SB Wear can be hardened to 64HRC, but still a decent steel for knives, although heat treat process is more demanding compared to simpler steels, double tempering is mandatory, triple tempering is recommended, salt bath and so on...
