BG42(Latrobe) - As per Latrobe, BG-42 is double vacuum melted, martensitic high speed stainless steel. Designed for aerospace industry, specifically structural components and high performance bearings. However, works just fine in knives, in fact Latrobe spec document for BG-42 specifically lists it as a stainless knife steel. Used to be and still is quite popular with custom knife makers, typically hardened to 60-61HRC range.
