W4(AISI) - Water hardening tool steel. By specs looks like a precise variation of AISI W1 steel. It's listed by number of steel dealers, although on occasion I've seen W4 listed as high speed steel, which doesn't really make sense. Anyway, as it is, it's a high carbon, low alloy steel. Will have pretty good edge holding and ok toughness when heat treated properly.
