R12MF5-MP(GOST) - High speed tool steel. Ni direct western analogs, but based on the composition R12MF5-MP is AISI T15 high speed tool steel minus Cobalt. There are number of Cobalt free high speed tool steel, which is a budget move in general, but if the tool doesn't need to work at very high temperatures savings make sense. Designed for various cutting tools used on medium alloy tool steels, high strength steels, etc. R12MF5-MP has very high wear resistance. Difficult to heat treat and to machine, just like all other high speed tool steels. R12MF5-MP is listed and discussed on knife related forums, with positive assessments and comments, however so far I can not find an actual knife made out of it, which doesn't mean they don't exist. In the end, high wear resistance and high working hardness make R12MF5-MP decent candidate for light cutting, high efficiency cutters.
