KAD181(Kobelco Steel) - PM Tool steel from Kobe Steel, used for cutting metals and other cutting instruments. High carbon tool steel, stain resistant. Can reach 64-65RC working hardness when used in knives. Strange thing about this steel is how it is listed as an equivalent of wild variety of tool steels, while having very significant differences with them, in terms of chemical composition. E.g. I've seen it listed as equivalent of AISI D2 tool steel (JIS SKD-11), Hitachi SLD8, and Bohler-Uddeholm Sleipner steel. Some have less than half of the Chromium KAD181 does, others have half the Carbon. I am not sure where is all that coming from. Overall, very good steel for high performance cutting knives. Japanese maker Kou Nen uses it in the kitchen knives. There were reports of other makers using it as well.
