Found another German maker - Geruk, amongst other things they make bunch of popular, high end PM steels, and for some reason also list Thyssen-Krupp steels equivalent to theirs. Good source for the infe :)

Got my hands on the stel catalog, and dug up a lot of interesting data. Specifically, exact composition specifications of the couple dozen JIS, EN and W-Nr steels. Having precise data is of couse much better, than simmply assuming foreign country steel standard spec matches US exactly. For example, I just learned that Euro equivalent of the AISI D3 tool steel - X210Cr12 steel, doesn't have neither Tungsten nor Vanadium in it. Yet they are listed as equivalents in all catalogs. Missing 1% Vanadium from the composition can be significant you know. Fixed couple minor UI bugs.

After long years, I don't really remember since when I became aware of the Opera browser to be honest, but I never bothered to support it either. Too many things for one person, testing, reviewing, work, personal life and then half a dozen broswers to support/test every single thing with... Anyway, as far as I can tell based on 2 days of testing, all works fine on Opera as well, there are couple known bugs, but those are not browser specific. Knife steel composition chart which was the reason for most of the complaints and Japanese Kitchen Knife Types And Styles database are working fine, actually I found html related bug in the Japanese knvies database because of the Opera browser. At least something good came out of all that besides supporting a new browser ;)

Originally I couldn't find the maker of this steel. Today, fellow BF member provided the missing data, turns out it's Masahiro steel, in addition he provided info that RS-30 was just an alias for the MRS-30 steel. One more small mystery solved, well make that two ;)

After over a year of waiting I got two packages, apparently yesterday, but I found them today morning, 6am. Both from Hawaii. Package one contained Shigefusa(Iizuka) Kitaeji Azumagata Ucuba. I already have kamagata Usuba, one was from Tadatsuna, another is from Aritsugu, so let's see how does this one work out. Quality is top notch though and the knife is just super nice. Package two had 7 handles in it. All from Stefan Keller. Now all that goes to Dave Martell for rehandling... Fun times :)

You can add the search engine from any page under steels directory. Just click on the search engine dropdown control and add Steel Search. Suggestions are suported as well. Except because of the incomplete implementation in FireFox, all choices go to steel chart search. You can also use * and ? wildcard characters.

Added correct Enter key handling, which executes quick search in all cases, but when the Advanced search dialog is open. In which case, full set of search parameters is submitted. Added correct canonical link tag generation for the directory modes.

Finally :) After last 2 days of frantic debugging and bug fixing, all seems to be working fine, and the new chart with bunch of new features and over 200 new alloys is online. As usual, thanks to everyone who helped, cheered, provided data or corrections. Constructive criticism and improvement ideas are always welcome.

All the major features of the knife steel chart 3.0 are ready. Now the help files and testing. I sure hope nothing serious comes up to delay new version release any further.

Most of the client side scripting is complete, just bugfixing left, is I find any. Directory listing support added, and it's 100% done. I still need to tweak search algorithm for specific search types, but in 3.0 version you could type like /steels/pm and it'd display all PM steels in thedatabase, or /steels/crucible to see all the alloys form Cricible :) If all goes as planned, by Saturday I should finish up necessary changes to search engine and graph builder, then testing and help file updates. Target publishing day - this Sunday.
