Sadly, benchmade discontinued M2 steel blades. Back then the official hardness was 60-62HRC. Few monthsago I've asked Phiol Wilson to reharden my EDC, Benchmade 710 HSSR, M2 blade in short. The results were just spectacular. The edge is pretty much twice as thin now and holds better then back then when it was ~60HRC. Since Nimravus is one of my favorite user knives I've decided to reharden those as well, although I have to sacrifice Boron Carbide coating on both knives. It's a shame to have M2 steel knife, especially light cutter like Nimravus at 60 or even 62HRC. So much potential is lost. Well, knives are sent, and I'll update revies later one I et thm back.

Sharpened two knives today. Swamp Rat Camp Tramp and Busse Skeleton Key. Much easier to sharpen than CPM-10V or those Japanese kitchen knives at 65HRC. Still, I did heavy reprofiling, spent almost 6 hours sharpening. New Naniwa 5000 grit stone turned out a real good one. Perfect initial polishing step.

Was a blast. Around 40 people showed up, Dave was hosting and answering variety of sharpening related questions. Basically wealth of knowledge and experience exchange, plus it was a lot of fun. I'll post on my blog upcoming events for sure. You can also check Dave's blog for that info, linked in this entry.

Postal man just delivered the first two of the rehandled knives :) Aritsugu A-Type 270mm Gyuto and Watanabe Ko-Deba. Basically I just got two new knives. What a treat! Dave (JapaneseKnifeSharpening.com) also cleaned up the back side of the Aritsugu and polished the edge with CrO, so it looks simply gorgeous. Photos are coming soon, very soon :)

Fixed the guestbook signing functionality for both zvis.com and zknives.com. After moving to PHP5 there was leftover obsolete code.

Complete preliminary review is up. It's still missing a lot of use data I've accumulated so far, but I need time to get through all the notes and systematize data, plus few more tests to conduct. However, the important stuff about the knife, its parameters and such is there.

Dave Martell, that'd be the guy behind Japanese Knife Sharpening, the real sharpening guru and oracle, has a blog for his place now. If you are into sharpening, knives and all that then it's for you.

Just talked to Phil Wilson :) Both M2 Nimravi are going for re-hardening to him. I got nothign short of an excellent from the previous rehardening of BM 710 HSSR blades and this one will be a match. In the blade like that M2 does deserve 64HRC or higher. Most likely one of the Nimravi will get blade regrind from Phil too. Talk about super cutters there.
