Added 8A steel chemical composition. This onegets confused with AUS-8 steel quite often, inthat AUS-8 is called 8A, but those are twi different steels. Also, fixed SG2 steel data, and combined SGPS steel with it. To be precise, SG2 is the SGPS, just someknifemakers refer to it as SGPS. Takefu makes SG2, butnever lists SGPS in their products. Eitherway, now we know theyr'e thesame and more importantly much more precise data for SG2.

Updated Joe Talamadge's knife steel FAQ to the latest, which in itself is quite old now, 2005 to be precise. Hopefully he will update it.

As expected both regrinds arrived today. Super! Thinned down considerably. I'll sharpen them this weekend, at least one of them and we'll see, but judging from my previous experience with Phil Wilson reground Nimravus, these are gonna be superb cutters. Just like they're supposed to be. Photos will be up this weekend I hope. Too many knives piled up waiting for sharpening and only 48 hours in a weekend...

Talked to Tom Krein. Blades were reground and sent to me. Hopefully PO will do things right and I'll get them either today or tomorrow the latest. After all this time... Can't wait to see them and put back those folders together :) Those are the top 2 blades on the photo attached here.

Fox cancells Dollhouse :(
Friggin morons! Or at least, one more imbecile in the executive chair get his way. They know the show has large following, but just because it's being watched more on DVR and not live to enjoy commercials they can the show. Putting it on Friday night and then expecting people to watch it live? Who would want to watch a show live while DVRs are getting more and more ground. So, if I don't see that idiotic enzyte dude 5 times in an hour, the show isn't worth it apparently...

Added 4140, D7, D4, D5, M340, RS-30, L1, L2, 6150, 5150, 4150. As you can see its a mix of the steels from all over the places. Well, at least major steel manufacturers. Not all of them are super steels or new, but still cutlery steels.

This weekend, sharpened that puppy. My first SG2 blade by the way. Pretty strange metal. Feels very hard, and on some stones acts like one, and then on 10000 grit Naniwa Chosera Superstone it feels buttery smooth. Go figure. Sadly I didn't get to keep it long enough for serious edge holding testing and I didn't want to do something brutal to it for quick results either. Held the edge pretty good on carrots and broccoli, which was the hardest stuff I cut with it.

It was yet another loaner, which I had to fix and sharpen. Well, plus I got to play with it for a couple weeks or so. Can't compare with high end knives, 440A Steel or similar, so not much of the performance to expect, but it's not a complete junk, at least for its price. Budget knife, so so performer. Not worse than mainstream Henckels or Wusthofs.

Todays entries are 1.2008, W75 and UHC. Sadly not much of the info on the last 2. Even though W75 is Krup's steel there is no information on their site, and second is Roselli proprietary steel. UHC stands for Ultra High Carbon, and reportedly achieves 64-66HRC, with very good edge holding ability at that hardness. Roselli proprietary.
